COLLAR DE MISS VENEZUELA BATE RECORDS EN LA SUBASTA DE CARIDAD DEL MISS MUNDO

Shanghai’s rich and famous came to the aid of the flood-stricken island of Hainan when a Miss World 2010 charity auction raised nearly 1.8million RMB

The money was raised in an auction of beautiful and varied items brought from the homes of the 120 contestants, including jewelled necklaces, oil paintings, exotic carvings, stunning glass and silver works, and tickets to a major golfing tournament.

A total of 1,772,000 RMB (£165,656 / $264,542)was raised at the auction hosted by Miss World 2010 and EXPO’s China Private Enterprise Pavilion businesses.  The contestants were presented on stage to a warm welcome, before they joined guests for a lavish dinner.  During the auction, the contestants returned to the stage to perform their adopted anthem Light the Passion – their performance dedicated to the flood-stricken people of Hainan, home to Miss World in China.

A uniquely personal item from the representative of Malawi was the first to raise the bar in bids when a necklace worn by Malawi was part of a small package of gifts to raise 100,000 RMB (£93,500).  This was an extremely personal donation from Malawi – our latest contestant to join Miss World 2010 – as it was given to hear by her grandmother.

Top-seller of the night was a stunning silver citrine necklace donated by Venezuela, in an exclusive design by Lilia Lopez, entirely handmade and unique, which raised 200,000 RMB (£18,697).Stunning

Profits from this event will go to assisting the recovery of people affected by floods and extreme weather on the South Sea island, Hainan, where this year’s Miss World Final will be held – for the fifth time, in Sanya.

Miss World president and CEO Mrs Julia Morley said:  “Charity should begin at home and we all want to support our good friends on Hainan island.  We hope that the rains will stop soon and the people of Hainan will be back on their feet soon.  They are very special people and we send them our love.  We will be with them in two days.”
